Tuesday

Just wanted to show some graphic home goods today- there is so much great stuff out there and just like in apparel, there's a huge upswing in graphic presence in the world of interiors. I like how an unexpected graphic print feels young in the mix with other pattern and textures. Too much and it will look like a dorm room, but a little is nice.

Graphic Pillows are from Etsy sellers CommonDeceny, and BigStoneHead. Georgie Greville photo by Todd Selby. Wave pillow and shower curtains are from Urban Outfitters Apartment.

Also, stay posted for H&M's new Home division, sadly not in the US.

Monday

Nothing cuter than a girl in a graphic tee. Happy to see more tees than ever in mags, on the blogs, on the runways. I like the type driven conversation tees, getting tired of seeing kid's cereal boxes and david bowie's face all over the place.

Friday

Two of my favorite things- the 1920's and Egyptian influences. Again, blame it on the runways. Fall 09 has a distinct ethnic influence within embellishment. Coptic influences were present, but in my opinion not as beautiful as they could have been.... so I went looking for my own inspiration- tah dah! These lovely ladies remind me a bit of the Ballet Russe and a bit of my ideal way to spend the weekend, all dolled up and lounging around.

I can't wait

Can't wait, can't wait!

Thursday

I always think it's funny when designers are referred to as rebels or rockstars or bad boys or whatever, but in this case, it might just be true. Robert Brownjohn, known for his gratuitous use of both the female figure and recreational drugs, was known to infuse his work with a healthy dose of vice & subversive wit. Counting the Rolling Stones, James Bond, and Pirelli tires among his clients, Brownjohn's works are beautifully documented in Sex & Typography, worth having in your collection.

Watching all the ladies stampede down the Fall 09 catwalks in pair after pair of gloves brought to mind one of the best uses of inspiration I have ever seen. Years ago, when I was in Philly on the Free People design team, one of the girls brought in some of her work; in a creative place where anything goes, everybody was blown away. Doub Hanshaw, whose handwriting has shaped the FP brand immeasurably, created these unexpected masterpieces out of vintage gloves. These lovely and twisted little ladies stuck with me all these years, it's just such an incredible and open minded way to create. Creativity must run in the family because Doub's sister is behind the consistently inspiring Free People blog. Thanks Doub, for sharing, and a special thanks to her mom for shooting these for us!

From Doub-
"Well what became fascinating for me when I started the glove project was how elaborately detailed each pair of gloves were. And with each glove it's delicate little details really dictated each design. I had become obsessed with gloves and was scouring the city for them mainly for the strange need to cut one of the pair up into a silhouette. I still have such an appreciation for the amazing craftsmanship and design of gloves. "

*I still miss Philly.

Tuesday

I know I've been textile heavy a bit recently. Blame it on the runways...the fall 09 shows are influencing this week's posts. Mixed in with all the sweaters & sequins were a ton of graphic tees. So happy to see the return of the humble tee to high fashion. The use of photographic elements in graphic tees continues to grow.. judging by the high end presence, there's no end in sight. Here's some amazing photography & graphic design books to get us inspired.
